Greetings from Carrier Strike Group (CSG) THREE headquarters at Naval Base Kitsap in Bremerton, WA, and welcome to the CSG-3 Facebook page!
Since assuming command on the third of September, I have had the great fortune to meet many of the impressive warriors in Strike Group THREE. I am extremely impressed with the great things our Sailors are doing everyday across the Strike Group.
From the Sailors aboard the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis working together with Puget Sound Navy Shipyard personnel to conduct critical maintenance and upgrades needed to prepare Stennis for her return to the fleet next fall
(http://www.cpf.navy.mil/news.aspx/040009), to the brave men and women aboard the guided-missile cruiser USS Cowpens who departed San Diego Sept. 18 for a seven-month deployment to the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations (http://www.navy.mil/submit/display.asp?story_id=76661), our Sailors continue to focus on fleet readiness and operating forward.
I had the pleasure of visiting with the hard working Sailors at Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron SEVEN ONE (HSM-71) and Destroyer Squadron TWO ONE, as well as the men and women aboard the guided-missile cruiser USS Mobile Bay and guided-missile destroyers USS Milius and USS Dewey in San Diego. I could not be more proud of the great work they are doing each day on behalf of our nation.
While in San Diego, I also attended the change of command ceremony for Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron EIGHT (HSC-8), in which CDR Derek Kingsley relieved CDR Lawrence Meehan. Thank you to CDR Meehan for your wonderful leadership and I wish you and your family all the best in Washington, D.C. at your new assignment with the Office of Legislative Affairs.
In the coming weeks I plan to visit with the “Hawkeyes” of Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron One One Two (VAW-112) at Naval Air Station Point Mugu, CA as well as several of our San Diego-based units, and I look forward to sharing those experiences with you in the near future.
For those unfamiliar with the structure of a carrier strike group please see the attached diagram for a visual depiction of operational units that fall under the CSG-3 banner and visit our official website for more information (http://www.stennis.navy.mil/sgabout.html).
Please continue to visit our Facebook page for updates on operations and events from all of our CSG-3 units and Sailors. Thank you for visiting and I look forward to engaging with you again soon.
